The Key Ingredients In Fat Burners: Capsimax, L-Carnitine & More!

Fat burner supplements, more commonly known as thermogenics or thermogenic pre workouts are growing in popularity and they work to increase the body's state of thermogenesis. Fat burners are an effective tool to assist in elevating your metabolism as well as help you to burn fat for energy while you train. There are a number of ingredients used in fat burning supplements and looking at the back of the nutritional panel can be quite hard to interpret, so let's go through some of the key ingredients.

L-Carnitine

L-Carnitine is one of the most common ingredients found in fat burners and is often sold by itself. L-carnitine is a naturally occuring amino acid that helps the body to metabolise fat for energy. It helps to transport fat, particularly long-chain fatty acids, into the mitochondria of cells. Once there, they can be oxidized and used as fuel. L-carnitine does this cellular work both when you exercise and rest, but research confirms that it is especially effective during intense exercise. L - carnitine is a non stimulate and is best taken in the morning on an empty stomach and also again before training.

Caffeine

Caffeine is another one of the most common ingredients found in fat burners. There are a number of different types and sources of caffeine. Caffeine works to increase the body’s metabolism by stimulating the central nervous system. The most common source found in fat burners is green tea or green tea extract, this type of caffeine is full of antioxidants and gives the user a good ‘clean’ energy making it an effective ingredient and source of energy in fat burners. People trying to lose weights should be wary about their total caffeine intake as too much caffeine can increase cortisol, which is the body’s stress hormone, and too much cortisol can prevent weight loss.

Grains of Paradise

Grains of Paradise, also known as Paradoxine, is a herb in the ginger family and is considered to be a very effective fat metaboliser. They are extracted from an African plant “aframonum melegueta” which has been used in a number of West African herbal remedies and foods. The spice can help to affect rates of thermogenesis, the process through which your body uses energy to produce heat. Because of this, users may notice a slight warming sensation when using fat burners with grains of paradise. This increased state of thermogenesis can help to increase your metabolism and overall calorie expenditure throughout the day.

Capsimax (Casaicin)

Capsimax, also known as Casaicin or Red Pepper Extract, is a concentrated amount of capsicum extract from hot chilli peppers. Capsimax is a well designed ingredient as provides the desired effective levels of capsaicinoids without the burn associated with hot peppers. This is because the extract is encapsulated in a special coating that controls the release of the ingredients and protects the stomach from the burning sensation that is associated with ingesting hot chilli peppers. The capsaicinoids that you want from peppers, is purified in capsimax to support your body’s energy production by helping to  increase your metabolism and also thermogenesis in the body. Users may also notice a slight warming sensation with capsimax but it is a harmless side effect.

Theobromine

Theobromine (also known as theobromide and xantheose) is a naturally occurring alkaloid that works similar caffeine. Theobromine can be found in cocoa, and a range of chocolate type products, usually the darker the chocolate, the higher the concentration of theobromine. Theobromine works as a vasodilator, diuretic and stimulant and can help to improve workout intensity and fat metabolization. Theobromine works well with other ingredients in fat burners due its properties as mild stimulant, it works well with compound such as green tea extract and yerba mate. By itself theobromine can help shed water weight as well as suppress your appetite.
