Add that extra Spark to your energy

Add that extra Spark to your energy

Energy, it's the single thing most of us can’t get enough of, and the elusive problem-solver many of us chase. It’s the feeling you get after a healthy meal or an invigorating exercise session. And whilst your body responds to these health promoting activities by supplying our hearts and brain with energy, your body cannot perform this magical feat without the presence of a myriad of vitamins and coenzymes. These convert the food you eat and air you breathe, into a cellular energy source. able to be used by the organs and tissues in your body on a molecular level.

The cell's spark plug – Coenzyme Q10

Energy cannot be produced or directed in your body without the presence of one key nutrient – Coenzyme Q10. In fact, without Coenzyme Q10, your body cannot generate pure energy. So, whilst the sugar from the apple you have just eaten, or the oxygen from the breath you have just taken, play a key role in supplying energy to each of our cells, without Coenzyme Q10 these ‘ingredients’ cannot be converted into ‘real’ energy (also known as ATP or Adenosine Tri-phosphate). Put simply, without Coenzyme Q10 acting as a ‘spark plug’, the energy currency your body uses for all its biological processes (ATP) does not exist.

Standard CoQ10 vs Ubiquinol

Standard CoQ10 (known as Ubiquinone) is found in many foods and supplements. This oxidised form needs to be converted into its reduced form (known as Ubiquinol) in order to enter the cellular energy generation cycle. Whist this conversion is quick and easy for healthy individuals under the age of 40, as you age, if you exercise excessively or take medications (most notably Statin drugs for high cholesterol levels), this conversion can become faltered, meaning your cells cannot create the same ‘spark’ of energy present before age, fatigue and illness were present. Without doubt, it is beneficial for any individual suffering from high cholesterol levels that takes statin drugs, to supplement with Coenzyme Q10 daily, especially if they are over the age of 40. Ideally, Ubiquinol is the best form of CoQ10 to take in these circumstances, due to its superior absorption and unsurpassed uptake by the cell.
