Amazing Paleo Chocolate Brownies

Amazing Paleo Chocolate Brownies
  • Health advice
  • Jan 14, 2016
Are you looking for a treat that is grain free and a low sugar alternative to a chocolate brownie Here is a Paleo friendly cacao brownie recipe that has all the decadence of the real deal, without the inflammatory white flour and white sugar.
Can you guess the secret ingredient?
Warning: It will have family members and friends clamouring for pieces as soon as it leaves the oven!

Amazing Paleo Cacao Brownies

  • 1 medium sweet potato (grated (approx. 2 – 3 Cups when grated))
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ Cup coconut oil (melted)
  • 1/3 Cup honey or rice malt syrup
  • 2 tsp. vanilla powder or extract
  • ½ Cup raw cacao powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate soda
  • 2 – 3 Tbsp. coconut flour
  • 1/3 Cup hazelnuts or cashews (chopped roughly (optional))
  1. Preheat oven to 185 deg C
  2. Combine all the wet ingredients – grated sweet potato, eggs, coconut oil, sweetener and vanilla in a large bowl and mix well until all combined
  3. Sift cacao, baking powder, bicarb soda and add chopped nuts (if using) into wet mix and stir gently to combine
  4. Slowly add coconut flour 1 Tablespoon at a time, stirring well between each addition until a soft, damp dough has formed, You may not need to add all the coconut flour depending on how dry or wet the mixture appears
  5. Spoon mixture into a paper lined shallow baking tray, approx. 25cm square, or 26cm x 13cm
  6. Bake for 25 – 30 minutes, checking that the middle of the brownies has set well. Remove from oven and cool in tin for 10 minutes, before removing from tin and cutting into squares
  7. To serve, dust with some cacao powder, or serve with coconut yoghurt or cream and berries
