Man's best friend deserves the best of care just as you do! Care for your pet with these easy and natural herbal skin care remedies.

Pet Skin Care

Essential fatty acids such as flaxseed, fish oil, wheatgerm A,C and E are needed to aid skin repair.  A good protein diet is essential and not one that has soy based fillers, which are difficult for the animal to metabolize. In fact your pet may have an allergy to grains. Constipation also lead to skin problems. Since most forms of skin disease are related to poor elimination a great deal can be achieved by supporting the liver, kidneys, lymphatic system and immune system. Using a herbal tonic to gently support the body’s cleansing system helps the body to heal itself.  Herbs can be used over a long period as a daily supplement.  A basic skin support formula would consist of Burdock, Cleavers, Dandelion, Red Clover and Garlic.

Itchy Skin

Skin problems that are triggered from outside the body are often but not always easier to identify and correct than those that emanate from within, like when an animal has been lying on grasses that cause an urticaria, this can be treated by neutralising the itch with dandelion or nettle rinses.

Ringworm

Ringworm is a parasitic fungal infection and has been passed from a host, and like most parasites including fleas and mites it is more likely to affect an immunocompromised animal. Some breeds are more likely to develop atopic allergies to bites, using Neem oil in a dog shampoo can effectively curb the itching and rinsing also with Neem. If a more complex consult is required Poppy is happy to do a pet consultation and tailor make herbs specifically.
