Don't take your eyes for granted. Protect your eyesight with these five tips:
1. Eat well to maintain excellent vision
Protecting your eyes starts with what you eat. From a nutritional standpoint, a large-scale research project conducted by the National Eye Institute has shown that there are several nutrients that help reduce the risk and slow the progression of macular degeneration and cataracts. The most important foods for preventing macular degeneration are ones that are rich in zinc, beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E and lutein. Omega 3 fats are also a valuable addition to your diet. Regularly eating these foods can help lead to good eye health:- Green, leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale
- Salmon, sardines, and other oily fish

2. Stop Smoking for Better Eyesight
Smoking makes you more likely to get cataracts, optic nerve damage, and macular degeneration.3. Use Safety Eyewear at Home, at Work, and While Playing Sports
If you work with hazardous or airborne materials at work or home, always wear safety glasses! Certain sports can lead to eye injury. Wear eye protection (such as helmets with protective face masks or sports goggles with polycarbonate lenses) to shield your eyes.4. Look Away From the Computer for Good Eye Health
